The surgeons

Joint assessment, one team.

Both surgeons graduated from the Gülhane Military Medical Faculty, completed their residency in the Department of General Surgery at GATA, and were made associate professors in 2023. Complex cases are assessed jointly and the operative plan is made together.

Laparoscopic surgery

The difference, drawn to scale.

Open surgery opens the abdominal wall through one long incision. Laparoscopic surgery does the same work through ports a few millimetres across. The two drawings below share one scale.

Open surgical incisionone incision, ~200 mm
Laparoscopic portsfour or five entries, 5–12 mm

These measurements describe a typical abdominal operation and vary from patient to patient. Not every operation can be done laparoscopically; that is decided after examination and investigation.
