One training, shared
Both read medicine at the Gülhane Military Medical Faculty. Both completed their surgical training in the Department of General Surgery at GATA. Both spent their early years in places where a hospital's resources were whatever happened to be there: Kars and Muş, Şemdinli and Hakkari, Cyprus, Kosovo.
That shared history is not two doctors who happen to share an address. They speak the same clinical language, judge operative decisions against the same criteria, and start from common ground when they discuss a case. What that means in practice is simple: on a difficult decision you get two surgeons' assessment rather than one.
We prefer the laparoscopic approach
Most of what we do is performed laparoscopically — through ports a few millimetres across rather than one long incision in the abdominal wall. For patients this usually means less pain afterwards, a shorter stay in hospital and an earlier return to ordinary life.
It is not right for every patient or every operation. The position and size of a tumour, previous surgery, adhesions inside the abdomen and a patient's general condition all change the calculation. We decide after examination and investigation — and converting to open surgery when the situation calls for it is not a failure, it is the correct surgical decision.
What we work on
Surgery for cancers of the digestive system — oesophagus, stomach, colon and rectum, liver, pancreas and biliary tract — is the centre of gravity of the practice. Alongside that we treat obesity and metabolic disease surgically, repair hernias of every type, operate on the gallbladder, and manage anorectal conditions.
Cancer treatment is planned together with medical and radiation oncology. Surgery is only one part of most cancer care, and the decision should not rest with the surgeon alone.
In Konak
The practice is inside İzmir Cerrahi Merkezi, in Konak. The clock tower in our mark stands in the same district, and has since 1901. There is no more elaborate reason for putting İzmir's landmark in our logo than that: this is where we work.
